we stretch
not by our comforts
but by the pursuit
of our desires
turn off the TV
turn on your desire

Blessed Rejection

does the leaf unfold
and digest the sun

does a seed push
up and down

does a melon
magically appear

is it an expression
or a gift

blessed rejection
a car is not a melon

you would think
we would learn

consume

when we consume
we make them happy
so they can produce more
so we can consume more
they know us not
but it mattereth not
put it on a pallet
ship it out
it will improve your health
it will speed up your trip
it will make you attractive
and it will make them happy
as they produce more and more

The Price Is Right

there are species to save
global warming to abate
governments to topple
financial portfolios to protect
car companies to bailout
but not right now
a faint echo
of The Price Is Right
echos through the wall
and tomorrow
we will save the planet

the return

more frequently I return
to the here and now
my controlling
like a rock
tossed in a pond
ripples spreading out
diminishing into a greater purpose
predictions morph
into complexity
wants disolve into whys
contentment is
a giant umbrella
with demands dripping off
like rain
and the here and now
is like a concert
and I have tickets

Here and There

I move from here to there
I turn this on that off
my cell phone chirps
get some of this and that
sign this and that
deposit it here and there
turn on the flat screen
forest fire here plane crash there
excessive bonuses here layoffs there
the sun breaks through
a gray rainy day
and I access the here and now
over my starbuck's coffee

This Moment

I walk this path
as so many times before
comfort in its discomfort
uncertainty in its certainty

change is in the wind
a different path to take
predictions fall away
like melting snow flakes

the God of Fortune
waves a wand
changing paths
changing attitudes

I accept the unfolding
looking to my inner self
to live
in this moment

"Sleeting On My Soul"

I pick up a rusted shingle
blown from an old tobacco barn

Carefully place it above my soul

The cold gray sky releases its frozen tears
pinging on my soul shingle

The sound, beautiful sound, bringing me to the now
from the past and future

Sleet accumlates on my soul shingle
with a white granular glaze

I become a water trickle moving toward a stream
toward a river, toward the ocean

I become an ocean swell driven by an angry storm

I am lifted into white mists
and ride the winds to mountain peaks

This day, this moment I meet cold air
and join frozen tears falling toward my soul
